Honoring the Land

In 2004 a chance encounter with a famous horseman, a bit of fate and the charm of San Miguel de Allende called Mario, Holly and their young daughter, Olivia to the raw land that would become Rancho Sol Dorado. Holly Houston-Ortiz, the original visionary, saw Rancho Sol Dorado as the ideal place to create a country living estate for her family and to nurture Olivia’s natural talent for riding.

As the Rancho grew around the nopales and three-hundred-year-old mesquite trees, so too did the vision to welcome others to also experience this magical escape. The stables and the first house, Casa Destino, the first buildings built on the property, were carefully situated to embrace the soul of the land. Additional casitas, another cottage, and a deep spirit of hospitality created a place for guests to re-root in nature and enjoy the land. In 2018, our outdoor dining terrace, the Agua Miel, made it's debut followed by the solar-powered pool in 2022.

In 2024, Holly and Mario introduced the ranch to the principals of The Querencia Group and the appreciation for the land, the space and the area drew them together. A partnership was formed and today, the team is working together to enhance the original vision – making Rancho Sol Dorado a community and home for others to experience and enjoy.
